For many people the iPod is part of their daily lives. An iPod is a portable media player created by Apple. There are several different types of iPods consisting of the hard drive-based iPod classic, the compact iPod nano, the ultra-compact iPod shuffle and the touchscreen iPod touch. The iPod classic models use an internal hard drive to store media, the other models all use flash memory. Therefore it is possible to create the small size of iPods like the iPod nano and the iPod shuffle. Just like many other digital music players, iPods can be used for external data storage. The first iPod was launched on November 10, 2001 and has gained lots of popularity over the years. iPods have storage capacity varying between 2 GB and 160 GB.

The various models have been redesigned various times after they were introduced. The last iPod rediesigns were dated September 1, 2010. People need Apple’s iTunes software to be able to transfer music from computers to devices as from devices to computers. iTunes can be used with Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows.
